Nullizygous mutations lead to postnatal lethality. Homozygotes for a null allele show reduced birth weight, fasting hyperlactatemia, altered electrocardiograms and mitochondrial function, and agenesis of the renal papilla. Surviving homozygotes for a different null allele exhibit hearing loss.
